The John J. Pershing Veterans Affairs Medical Center is currently recruiting an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse to conduct Compensation and Pension examinations for Veterans.

Duties

GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF ASSIGNED DUTIES The Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (Compensation and Pension) Is responsible and accountable for all elements of the nursing process when conducting Compensation and Pension examinations which provides Veterans with disability evaluations, allowing them to obtain the benefits for which they are eligible. The Compensation and Pension (APRN) may use various approaches to evaluate a claim: Examination. An examination is a medical professional's personal observation and evaluation of a patient. This process may be conducted in person or by means of tele- health. Evaluation. An evaluation is an assessment of the medical evidence, which may involve conducting an examination, providing an opinion, or both. Opinion. An opinion refers to a medical professional's statement of findings and views, which may be based on review of the claimant's medical records or personal examination of the claimant, or both. Additional duties include, but are not limited to: Manage patients with acute and chronic health conditions with an emphasis on health promotion and disease prevention using evidence-based practice. Develop and implement individualized plans to achieve optimal population health and disease management. Demonstrate leadership and work collaboratively with a interdisciplinary team. Order and interpret labs, tests, and diagnostic studies. Prescribe pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic interventions. Initiate referrals and consults to specialty services. Assess and adjust patient care plans as needed to achieve optimal patient outcomes. Demonstrate advanced skills, knowledge, and an ability to perform treatments, procedures and utilize equipment appropriate to practice. Requirements

U.S. Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
