Emergency Management Specialist

10 open positions in this category

The 0089 series, Emergency Management Specialist, covers the planners and coordinators who prepare for, respond to and recover from disasters and other emergencies: writing continuity and response plans, running exercises, managing mitigation programs and coordinating with state, local and other federal partners. The Department of Homeland Security is the main employer, through FEMA and the department’s headquarters continuity programs, but the series also appears in the Navy, Army, Interior, Defense and Veterans Affairs, where installations and bureaus run their own emergency management offices.

Recent listings have included emergency management specialists in mitigation and response, DHS continuity evaluation, exercise and testing program leads, emergency management specialists at Navy installations, a continuity and resilience policy and plans coordinator, and supervisory emergency management specialists.

Applying tip: announcements in this series are specific about the phase of emergency management they want, so quote your experience in the same terms: continuity of operations, hazard mitigation, exercise design, or response operations. FEMA roles come with their own appointment types and deployment expectations, which our FEMA guide explains.
